OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION

Nearly as large as the full Moon, this bright open cluster contains around 30 stars. Its brightest star shines at magnitude 7,6. The cluster is located in the constellation of Ophiuchus close to the limit of Serpens. It was discovered in 1745-46 by Philippe Loys de Chéseaux (an astronomer from Lausanne Switzerland). It was independently discovered by Carolina Herschel on July 31 1783 who added at her list as N° 8.

It is a young cluster of about 660 millions years, similar age as the Hyades Cluster. (*)
