OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION

Stock 16 is a very small cluster located between the Southern Cross and "the Pointer" (arrow line formed by Alpha and Beta Centauri).

The Stock catalogue is not very well known. It contains two dozen of objects. Most of the clusters are very loose and dim.

In this case Stock 16 call our attention because its HII cloud associated RCW 75. The RCW catalogue was published in 1960 by Alex Rodgers, Colin Campbell and John Whiteoak under the direction of Bart Bok. It contains many HII regions which are also referenced by their Gum objects

Stock 16 is located within the top of RCW 75. Is a young cluster that fuels an active HII region. (*)

 

The bright orange star near the nebulosity arc at the center of the image is SAO 252268, with a visual magnitude of 6.91 and a distance of 663 light years.
