OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION

DS 1 (ESO 215-4) is a magnitude 12.12 planetary nebula located  in the eastern side of the constellation of Vela close to Centaurus. DS 1 was discovered by John Drilling in 1983.  This object has an irregular shape and is rather large for a 6x5 arc minutes size. The was one hour exposure in HA and there was only a weak signal in the center of the object. Definitely the main source shows up in the OIII line, bringing the green / blue hue. The central star of DS 1 is a double-lined spectroscopic binary with a period of 8.571 hours
