OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION

The Vela Molecular Ridge are interstellar clouds covering the north western side of the constellation of Vela and the eastern side of Puppis. It is composed of several clouds each of them with 100.000 to 1.000.000 solar masses. The most important clouds are identified by letters A, B, C and D. In the above image we have C and D (aka VMC and VMD). From left to right  Gum 17, Gum 15 and Gum 14. Part of the gas in the clouds is ionized by the ultraviolet radiation of some of the most massive stars associated with the complex, constituting H II regions of great extent. At the lower right we have some filaments wich are part of the Vela Supernova Remnant.
