OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION

A lesser known jewel in the Constellation of Orion. Following Simbad, NGC 2175 is an associated group of stars involved with a HII region identified by NGC 2174 and also catalogued as Sh2-252  It was discovered by Giovanni Batista Hodierna before 1654 and independently discovered by Karl Christian Bruhns in 1857. The central star is SAO 78049 with visual magnitude of 7.55.

The object is located in the northern side of the Orion Nebula close to the limit of Gemini. By the time the picture was taken NGC 2175 crossed the Meridian at 31º from the horizon.
