OBJECT DESCRIPTION AND IMAGE SESSION

A rather bright open cluster with 35 to 40 stars grouped in an area of 10 arc minutes. The cluster contains red giants stars. Clusters with this type of stars are well suitable for stellar evolution studies. NGC 5316 is located almost 2 degrees from Beta Centauri to the South West.

The cluster was discovered by Scottish astronomer James Dunlop in 1826 using a 9 inches f12 telescope.
