DATA

TYPE: Supernova Remnant in Vela

VISUAL MAGNITUDE: N/A

IMAGE FIELD OF VIEW: 97 x 72 arc minutes

DISTANCE: 800 light years

OBJECT DESCRIPTION

The picture shows part of this large Vela Supernova Remnant region. The filaments structures is the result of a massive star that exploded some 11.000 to 12.000 years ago. The outer layers of the stars expanded to the interstellar space forming the gas structures with high energy particles which is still visible today.

The object presents a huge relative size that gives the possibility to explore some other interesting areas.  Unfortunately due time constrains I had to quit the session without the Luminance channel
